"We're going on a small trip tomorrow," said your mother as you sat around your family dinner table.
4 lone pieces of bread sit upon all your plates.
Your brother looks apprehensive as he twitles his dinner back and forth on his plate.
<blockquote>
"[[Mother, where are we going?]]"
"[[Hey, brother. Do you know where we're going?]]"
</blockquote>"J-Just out to the forest! For your father and I to do some lumbering."
She smiles... nervously.
"It'll be a long journey, but once we get there, you both can sleep by a nice warm fire."
<blockquote>
"[[That sounds lovely!]]"
"[[But why do we have to go with you both?]]"
</blockquote>He looks at you, "I'll tell you later."
That's... not the answer you were expecting, but you continue with your meal nontheless.
The meal ends fairly quickly and your mothers sends everyone to bed.
As you're climbing in your bed, you notice that you brother's eyes are shut. He was supposed to tell you about the trip...
You don't hear any snoring yet, but you're not sure you want disturb his potential slumber.
<blockquote>
"[[Hey! You said you'd tell me where we were going tomorrow.]]"
[[Leave him to sleep.]]"Doesn't it, dear? Now eat up, make sure you eat it <i><b>all until nothing's left</b></i>."
Your mother goes about back to her meal. Your dad is barely touching his food. When he catches you staring at him, he offers a smile, but it's far from comforting.
"Ok then, it's time for you kids to get to bed."
Your brother follows along your trail up the stairs and to your shared room. As you get in your bed, you see that your brother isn't so quick to close his eyes to rest.
<blockquote>
"[[Are you alright?]]
"[[Hey, it's time to sleep!|Leave him to sleep.]]"
</blockquote>
(enchant: "left", (text-colour: green))"Why... uh... to keep each other company! We can't leave the both of you home by yourselves."
Out of the corner of your eye, you can see your brother scowl. You decide to not think [[too much into it|Let's go, my dears.]]"Oh... that's right." He gets up and makes way to your bed.
He speaks in a hushed voice, "Mother and Father are planning on taking us to the forest tomorrow."
You've always been one for the wilderness, "Oh! That sounds lovely!"
watch out for ourselves be careful. Ok?"
[[You're very confused|Let's go, my dears.]]
(enchant: "right", (text-colour: red))(goto: "Are you alright?")You decide to just close your eyes and [[drift off to sleep|Let's go, my dears.]].You woke up the next day. Your mother and father were already dressed. They pack only a small bag, carrying 2 pieces of bread.
The dry leaves crunch under our feet.
At every clearing we pass, I expect for Mother and Father to stop and set up a small camp. But, they keeping walking. They keep walking until the space between the trees become more and more narrow.
[[Your parents finally stop|Starting a fire]](set: $food to 2)
Your father starts gathering up some logs and works to start a fire.
"Alright, dears. Your father and I are going to go out now. We'll be back, but here's some bread just in case. Also, feel free to take a nap, we might be... a while."
You just take the bread. Your father and mother soon disappear into the forest.
It's just your brother and the [[silence of the trees]]. You both find joy in building leaf huts for the passing beetles and playing tag but...
(live: 3s)[The hours just keep going by with no sign of your parents.]
(live: 5s)[Soon your brother and you wander off into [[a deep slumber.]]]You both wake to... still being in the forest?
"Hansel! Where's mother and father? Why are we still here?"
He runs to give you a hug, "Hey! It's ok! I know this would happen, I'll get us back home."
You try to calm down, but you're scared. How could your parents leave you both here?
Your brother then says
<blockquote>
"[[Let's check out the river]]."
"[[Let's check out the tree moss]]."
</blockquote>"Come on, let's go down by the river and see where that leads us."
You follow closely behind, happy to have some hope of returning home. The hear the flowing river as it appears in front of you.
"Ok... the river on goes in two directions from here. Let's go..."
<blockquote>
"[[Left!]]"
"[[Right!]]"
(set: $river to true)Your brother spots some tree moss.
"Moss grows on the North facing side of the tree, right? Maybe that's the way home."
[[You both follow the moss|follow them]]
(set: $moss to true)Amazing!
Somehow, you find the familar pathway leading up to your home! You both run inside. You see your father stand in a start with the intrusion. His face lights up. You turn... the same can't be said about your mother.
<font size=200%”><font=“times new roman”><font color="red">"HOW DID YOU GET HERE?"</font></font></font>
(if: $river is true)["We just went by the river. There were some shiny pebbles there that lead us back here!"
Your mother was red with fury. But why?]
(else:)["We just followed the tree moss. The trees helped us!"]
(if: $food is 2)["Well, I see you have (print: $food) bread(s). At least you didn't eat any food we need." She says.]
(if: $food is 0)["And you have (print: $food) bread(s). You could've at least saved us that!" She screams.]
[[You're even more confused.]]You decide on going left and take on with your adventure.
You're both walking... still walking...
(live: 3s)[Now ratherly slowly at that. Your stomach begins to grawl in hunger. You remember the bread your mother gave the both of you before she left.
[<blockquote>
[[Rest and eat your bread]].
[[Keep going|follow them]].
</blockquote>]]The path just took you deeper and deeper into the forest and you died.
END."Please, Hansel. I'm so hungry, we've been walking for hours."
"Fine let's eat."
You can't tell if the bread was fresher than usual or if you were just really hungry. Either way, you have (print: $food) bread(s).
It is then that you find a folk in the road. The path down the river stop to a dirt path or more river. A shiny pebble catches your eye next to the river though...
<blockquote>
[[Follow the dirt path|Right!]].
[[Look at the shiny pebble]].
(set: $food to 0)"Look!" your brother says.

A pebble? A trail of them!
"We could [[follow them|follow them]] and see where they lead."You don't understand your mother's anger, but you're happy to be back home safely. You lay peacefully in the comfort of your own bed for the night.
If only this could last forever.
